• The Envol et Macadam Festival reveals its full line-up

    Quebec City, August 7th, 2012.The Envol et Macadam Festival revealed its 2012 line-up today. The 17th edition of the festival will be held from September 6th to 8th. Presented in collaboration with Tremblay beer, the event will be returning to l’Îlot Fleurie park underneath the Dufferin-Montmorency highway where both the Exo and Première Ovation stages will be located. Concerts will also be held in several of Quebec City’s downtown concert halls. This year once again, the public will enjoy a diverse line-up and a large number of concerts in an urban setting. Sixty odd artists from Quebec as well as from 15 different countries will be shaking up Quebec City’s downtown core throughout the three days of the festival.

    Thursday, September 6th

    Canadian finals of the Planetrox auditions

    This year, the Canadian finals of the Planetrox auditions will be held at Le Cercle. The groups that are in the running are Sky For Sinner (Quebec City), Adam Strangler (Montreal), Admirals (Saguenay), Openfieldz (Victoriaville), Virgo (Trois-Rivières) and Wintermitts (Vancouver).List, the finalist group from Germany, will also be there to play during the evening.

    The PLANETROX project is an international competition and its mission is to discover the best up-and-coming bands from Canada; the United States; France; Belgium; the United Kingdom; Germany; Australia; Ireland; Italy; the Czech Republic; Japan; China; Indonesia; Malaysia and South Korea, and to present them to the public at the Envol et Macadam Festival. Regional finals were held across Canada throughout the past months and the six Canadian finalists will have the chance to show off their talent at Le Cercle on Rue St-Joseph on the opening night of the festival. The group that wins the Canadian finals will play on one of the festival’s main stages at the l’Ilôt Fleuri park alongside the winners from the fourteen other participating countries.

    Friday, September 7th

    At l’Îlot Fleurie park, the action will start at 6:00pm with the Canadian artist Shawn Hook as well as the Quebecois band Portland! Throughout the evening, spectators will be able to see six of the groups that are finalists for the Planetrox auditions, including the Canadian finalist. On the Exo stage, the much-appreciated Toronto band Young Empires will present their world beat-inspired indie rock. Lights will end the evening off with their electro-pop and catchy melodies. On the Première Ovation stage, audiences will have the chance to see acoustic performances by Lagwagon singer Joey Cape, as well as by former Sainte Catherines members Hugo Mudie and Fred Jacques,who are currently performing as a duo as well as with several up-and-coming acts.

    Saturday, September 8th

    L’Îlot Fleurie park will open at 2:30pm and a number of groups will play on the two main stages including, among others, Death Valley Driver and nine of the group finalists from the Planetrox auditions. Quebec City-based bands Get the Shot, We Love Danger and Final State will also play, along with Montreal-based hardcore metal band Obey the Brave. This evening of metal and punk rock will continue with The Vandals, August Burns Red and Lagawagon, while folk and rock will take center stage on the Première Ovation stage with Jason Bajada and Canadian band Wintersleep.

    Following the death of No Use for a Name’s singer Tony Sly, the Festival team is working on the line-up and studying all of their possible options in order to satisfy the fans of the this Californian punk group. A press release will soon be sent out in order to inform the public of new modifications in the line-up.

    Le Cercle, Le Scanner, L’Agitée and Le Boudoir will all be participating

    Throughout the entire festival, concerts will be taking place at the end of the evenings at the above locations. They are all places that are important for the alternative music scene in Quebec City. These concerts will feature various musical genres played by local artists (Casabon, Fanny Bloom, Leafer, Dance Over All, etc.) as well as international artists (Crusades, The Color Morale, Of Mice And Men). They will also give audiences the chance to once again see the 15 group finalists from the Planetrox auditions. These bands from 15 different countries will play on the above stages, ensuring that the festival evenings end with a bang!
