• Envol et Macadam 2013: A success that exceeds all expectations

    Monday September 9th 2013

Monday, September 9th, 2013. The organizers of the Envol et Macadam festival have made a very positive assessment of the 18th edition of the event, which came to an end on September 7th. Over 25,000 people visited the different festival sites over the course of its three days. It was one of the most impressive gatherings that the festival has seen since it moved in the Nouvo Saint-Roch neighbourhood in 2008. This massive attendance will allow the organization to erase its deficit and attain a balanced budget. This will open the door for new projects and new and more promising international collaborations.

The festival had a punk rock line-up this year, and this obviously pleased the large number spectators who gathered at the l'Îlot Fleurie park to watch the highly charged performances of some of the genre's pioneers. The Californian group NOFX's concert on the closing night of the festival was of a rare intensity, and it brought together several generations of fans. Moreover, as the result of a contest that was presented by Envol et Macadam in collaboration with Tremblay beer, a festivalgoer will have the chance to fly to Boston this fall to see the group perform. The groups Face to Face, Pennywise, Randy and The Flatliners also gave lessons in fast-paced music to crowds that sang enthusiastically along to their biggest hits. It was a high-quality line-up that festivalgoers approved of, and it was all presented in a distinct urban setting that marvellously suits the event.

Up-and-coming bands were also well represented. Emerging bands from eleven different countries and four Canadian provinces were present thanks to the Planetrox auditions. The Envol et Macadam organization's mission is to help audiences discover alternative music, and they are very proud to have presented these new talents to the music fans of Quebec City. At the end of each night of the festival, Le Cercle, Le Scanner, L'Agitée and Le Knock-out hosted various local and international artists who performed to enthusiastic audiences.

Over the years, the festival has built a solid reputation and the participating artists are unanimous when it comes to the quality of the event and the warm welcome that they receive. After this 18th edition, the festival has now reached adulthood, and it is looking toward the future. New projects can be brought to life, and the Planetrox project can continue to develop in international markets. The organization has the wind in its sails and they plan on continuing to offer the alternative music scene opportunities for exchange and enrichment.

Envol et Macadam: 18 years of support to up-and-coming bands.
Envol et Macadam continues to innovate ways to support up-and-coming bands and to give emerging musicians the opportunity to participate in an event that each year attracts thousands of music fans and numerous industry professional to a unique and distinctive urban setting.

Envol et Macadam would like to thank all of the festivalgoers, as well as all of the partners of the festival, a project which receives support from the Ville de Québec, the Ministère de la culture, des communications et de la condition feminine, Canadian Heritage, Quebec City Tourism, Première Ovation, the Exo boutique, and the Delta Québec hotel.
