• Ziggy Marley at Envol et Macadam

    Tuesday August 11th 2009

Quebec City, August 11, 2009 -The increasingly popular Envol et Macadam festival is presenting an exciting and highly varied lineup for its 2009 edition. For only $20, festival-goers can attend big-ticket shows at Parc de l’Îlot Fleurie, under the Dufferin-Montmorency highway overpass. This year, the venue will feature three stages—the Tremblay, Première Ovation, and Exo stages, the last under cover of a big tent.

    Thursday, September 10

Off-the-wall electrofunk duo Chromeo will kick off the action on the Tremblay stage, with Movèzerbe, Stereo Total, and Holy Fuck as the opening acts. The same night Diaspora, Bslow, and Daron will heat up the crowds at the Première Ovation stage for Canadian rapper Kardinal Offishall, who’ll serve up a sonic brew of reggae, hip-hop, and dancehall numbers from his gold-selling second album. For hardcore fans, New York group Sick of it All will rock the Exo stage, with a little help from Tagada Jones, Sons of Disgrace, and Punchout.

    Friday, September 11

Grammy Award winner Ziggy Marley is following in the footsteps of his famous father, and he’s bringing his warm and sunny reggae sound to Quebec City! Montreal band Winter Gloves will be the opening act. Punk Rock Karaoke will hit the Exo stage with a one-of-a-kind, interactive show that’s not to be missed! Meanwhile, over at the Première Ovation stage, Swedish group The Sounds will perform for the first time in Quebec City. Also lined up are Zebra Zone, I.No, Still Insane, and Guttermouth.

    Saturday, September 12

Starting at 1 p.m., Parc de l’Îlot Fleurie will serve up an eclectic mix of great sounds. Never More Than Less, the finale of the GBOB Challenge, The Motorleague, Pinky Piglets, and Magnetix will heat up the crowds at the Tremblay stage for the festival-closing show by prolific California band Bad Religion. The Première Ovation stage will play host to Unfallen, We Love Danger, then post-hardcore quintet Alexisonfire, who will all do their best to shake the foundations of the Dufferin-Montmorency overpass. Also on September 12, headliners Maniacx and French rapper Sinik will get an electro intro by DJ Jam (Mo Resto Bar) and the Montreal-based Piknic ÉlectroniK event that will make a stop at Envol et Macadam this year.

    Envole-toi pour...

This year, Envol et Macadam is back with its Envole-toi pour… springboards where up-and-coming groups go head-to-head for a chance to represent Quebec at a major event overseas. In addition to Envole-toi pour Liverpool (September 10 at Le Cercle) and Envole-toi pour la France (September 12 at the Exo stage), Envol et Macadam has broadened its international scope with the addition of Envole-toi pour Tokyo (September 11 at Le Cercle). The bands selected for Liverpool are Millimetrik, Mashup Potatos, Sorehead, and Ultra; for France Taktika, Webster, CEA, and Good Samaritans; and for Tokyo Muted Screams, The Skopitones, The Hunters, and Molly’s Decline.
